Derek is a dad, husband and full-time journalist. Since 2006 he has been a reporter at The Courier-Journal in Louisville, Ky., where he writes stories, shoots pictures and produces multimedia.

He spends a lot of time helping his kiddo post to his blog or watching “Lost” and “24” on TV.

Derek grew up on baseball cards, Seinfeld and Super Mario Brothers. He is a 2005 graduate of the University of Kentucky’s School of Journalism and Telecommunications. Derek interned as a reporter at The Cincinnati Post, The Paducah Sun and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. In 2006, he participated in the Washington Center for Politics and Journalism Semester in Washington, D.C.

Derek has participated in UK’s Picture Kentucky workshop and served on the faculty of Western Kentucky University’s Mountain Workshops.

He is a member of the 2010 faculty of the Maine Media Workshops series where he will teach multimedia.
