Five years ago Robert and Debbie Blair founded the West End School, a small boarding school for boys struggling with academics and discipline. Now he wants to open its doors to more boys in need of direction and education.

Ferdinand’s Ball was held at the Frazier Museum in Louisville, Ky., on April 29 to benefit retired thoroughbreds. The event was named after the 1986 Derby winner who was sent to slaughter after being sold.

Jim Ball ran for 24 hours on Oct. 16 and 17 to raise money for autism treatment. I shot and edited this piece for courier-journal.com.
